Scalp massage: your 2-minute ritual for head and hair
Two minutes, ten fingertips, a little moment just for you. Here's how to massage your scalp, with your fingers, a brush or a scalp spray.
A scalp massage means gently circling and kneading your scalp with your fingertips or a soft brush. It relaxes you, loosens up your scalp and simply feels good. Two minutes a day are enough to turn it into a little ritual.
Why a scalp massage feels so good
You know that feeling at the hairdresser's when someone massages your head? You can treat yourself to exactly that every day.
- Relaxation: your head, forehead and neck let go. Perfect after a long day at the screen.
- A looser scalp: your scalp gets pleasantly warm and supple.
- Better care: scalp spray and shampoo spread more evenly.
- Your moment: two minutes just for you, no phone.
Scalp massage: how to do it in five steps
- Position your hands: spread your fingers slightly and place your fingertips at your front hairline. Keep your nails out of it.
- Circle: work in small, slow circles. Gently move your scalp instead of rubbing over your hair.
- Move along: bit by bit, from your hairline over the crown to the back of your head.
- Sides and neck: circle your thumbs at your temples, then gently knead the base of your neck with your fingers.
- Wind down: to finish, pull your fingers back through your hair like a comb, from hairline to back.
The pressure should feel pleasant, never painful. Two minutes are a lovely start, five a little luxury.
Fingers or brush?
Your fingers are the best tool, because you can feel exactly what feels good. A soft silicone massage brush is ideal for the shower: it lets you work in your shampoo gently, no nails involved. A wooden brush with rounded bristles works well in between, on dry hair.
Scalp massage with scalp spray
The massage is at its best with a scalp spray. Our Hairforte Spray with Procapil comes in versions for women and for men. A few sprays straight onto your scalp, then massage in with your fingertips for 30 seconds. It cares for your scalp and absorbs quickly. How to apply the spray parting by parting is shown in How to use scalp spray. What's behind Procapil is covered in Procapil.
Love it cool and fresh? Then reach for our Organic Aloe Vera Spray. Aloe vera leaf juice gives moisture and feels wonderfully cool on your scalp. Alcohol-free and no rinsing.
When does a massage fit into your day?
- Mornings: spray on your scalp, a quick massage, done. A wide-awake start.
- In the shower: massage your shampoo in with your fingertips for one minute.
- Evenings: two minutes on the sofa or in bed, as a ritual to wind down.
If your scalp is freshly injured or irritated, better take a break. After a hair transplant, only massage once your clinic gives you the green light. More on that in Healing after a hair transplant.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a scalp massage take?
Two to five minutes are ideal. Better short and every day than long and rarely.
How often should I massage my scalp?
Every day if you like, for example in the morning with your scalp spray or in the evening as a ritual.
Can I massage my scalp while washing my hair?
Yes, that's actually the perfect moment. Massage your shampoo in with your fingertips for one minute.
Should I massage with oil or without?
Ideally with a light scalp spray or with nothing at all. Oils like argan oil are better on your lengths and ends.
