Procapil: what's in it and how do you use it?

Procapil is found in many scalp sprays and shampoos. What this trio of care ingredients is made of, and how to easily add it to your daily routine.

You'll come across Procapil in many scalp sprays and shampoos for thinning hair. In short: Procapil is a cosmetic active complex made up of three components, designed for daily scalp care. Two plant compounds and a peptide: oleanolic acid from olive leaves, apigenin from citrus fruits and a biotin peptide. In our range, you'll find it in our Hairforte Spray and in Evocapil care, for example.

What is Procapil?

Procapil is a brand name for a combination of three ingredients developed for cosmetic hair and scalp products:

  • Biotinoyl tripeptide-1: a peptide, i.e. a small protein compound, bound to biotin.
  • Apigenin: a plant compound from the flavonoid group, found in citrus fruits, for example.
  • Oleanolic acid: a plant compound obtained from olive leaves, among other sources.

That's why you usually won't find Procapil under this name on the pack, but via these three components in the ingredients list (INCI).

What Procapil does in your care routine

Procapil was developed specifically for products that care for the scalp and hair roots. As a leave-in on the scalp, it becomes part of your daily routine: the spray absorbs quickly, feels light and gives your hair a well-cared-for grip at the roots. You'll get the most out of it if you use it regularly over several months.

What Procapil is used in

  • Scalp sprays and serums that stay on the scalp and aren't rinsed out.
  • Shampoos where Procapil is part of the hair wash.
  • Combinations with other care ingredients such as keratin or biotin.

A good example of such a combination is the Evocapil monthly set: shampoo, spray with Procapil and vitamins in one routine.

How to use products with Procapil

That depends on the product. You usually apply a scalp spray directly to the dry or towel-dried scalp and massage it in briefly. You use a shampoo as usual when washing your hair.

Above all, regularity matters: build the care firmly into your everyday life and follow the directions for use on the pack. We show you how to do it step by step in How to use a scalp spray.

Frequently asked questions

Is Procapil the same as minoxidil?

No. Procapil is a cosmetic care ingredient, minoxidil is a medicine.

Is Procapil suitable for men and women?

Yes, the active complex isn't specific to one gender. That's why our Hairforte Spray comes in two versions: with 3% Procapil as Hairforte Spray for men and with 2% Procapil as Hairforte Spray for women.

When should I see a doctor?

If your hair loss is severe, starts suddenly or persists. In that case, have the cause checked by a dermatologist.
